Thank you, Baltimore!
Selling books, building community: River River has a blast at AWP '26.
The editors of River River Books have successfully wended their ways home — back to North Carolina and Ohio — from Baltimore, the site of this year’s AWP (the annual conference for the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, attended by 10,000 or so writers), where we had a table at the bookfair — and an absolute gem of a time.

We sold 175 books, which for us is a remarkable number. We talked with so, so many poets and writers about our work and theirs. We sold out of seven of our titles. We hosted the press’s first reading, where six of our authors shared their brilliance. And we ended the weekend at a reading co-organized by editor Han focused on Anti-Fascist Love Poems: such an affirming, supportive, defiant space, and an amazing way to close out the conference experience.

Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by the table to say hello or to pick up one of our books. We’ve said from the beginning of this press that finding joy in community is why we’re doing this. AWP reminded us all the ways in which that community has supported us along the way. We could not do any of this without y’all.
Seriously: thank you.
